Mr Twumasi-Ankrah Okyere, Founder and CEO of Ghana Door to Door UK Explains the Door to Door Concepts
Ghana door to door (GD2D) The 21st Century new concept:
The concept is very simple. We come to your door to collect your consignment anywhere in the United Kingdom. The goods are professionally packed and labelled in your own house. The consignmen
t is sent straight to our container warehouse without offloading and reloading. The container is then lifted and dropped at the seaport by professional container lifting company. When the ship arrives in Ghana, we take 2 days to clear the goods from the port. We deliver the goods to your door anywhere in Ghana without any extra charge.
IT IS SAFE, SECURE AND INTACT!!!!
The traditional concept:
The good old traditional concept of shipping is “transport your goods to a warehouse and add to a pallet of other peoples goods and then drop in a pool of millions of other consignments from all over the world at Tema or Takoradi port”. The shipper do not have any visibility or control once the goods are at the government bonded warehouse waiting to be cleared. No wonder the goods are either tampered or stolen before they are even cleared. The nightmare begins with the consignee not the shipper having to make numerous trips to the port to find a clearing agent. The agony continues with the consignee having to choose from scores of agents and also the tendency to choose a dodgy one. Then the stories begin: come tomorrow, bring extra money for so called miscellaneous expenses. Indeed, the traditional system is laborous, time consuming and waste of valuable resources.
The door to collect concept
Guess what? There is also something called door to collect!! So what is door to collect? They are non professional businessmen who would lure you to help them pay for their shipping and import duties on their own commercial goods. They normally ship spare parts or second hand goods from waste sites in UK. They collect your precious goods and add to their greasy spare parts or smelly used fridges or sometimes unwanted TVs picked from waste disposal sites throughout the United Kingdom. They do not have proper storage facilities in the
UK and hence your goods could be lost even in the UK before shipping commences!! Furthermore, they also take at least 3 months to collect their stock from various sites before shipping. Your wedding dress is part of a spare parts or waste clearance consignment!! Your goods would get to the port any how all be it dirty, greasy and smelly. Then another nightmare begins, the owner of the consignment would look for customers and take some cash deposit before the clearing process begins. On average these guys may take up to 2 weeks to clear the goods. When they clear the goods the whole consignment is sent to their spare parts or used fridges or TV shops. They would contact the receiver to come to the shop for collection and also ask for additional money for clearing the goods. You may end up paying twice as much and have to arrange your own transportation to collect from the shop.
Indeed door to collect is another nightmare!!!!
